UNIVERSITY OF LIFE CULTIVATES THE NEXT GENERATION OF WOMEN IN TECH AT WEEK-LONG CAMP

SalesPad volunteers to mentor middle school students in entrepreneurship, STEM careers and leadership

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.SalesPad, a Grand Rapids-based software company, today announced they are sponsoring Michigan Women’s Foundation’s University of Life 2017 and five of their employees, Brenda Sanchez, Alyssa Strand, Sofie Grant, Kandace Gordon and Kelli Zerbel, will volunteer at the week-long camp this year.

“As a part of our mission, SalesPad is committed to empowering young women to pursue careers in technology and making sure students have access to educational opportunities,” said Jennifer Jurgens, Vice President of Marketing at SalesPad. “Middle school is a critical time when students explore different professions and we believe it’s important to offer support and mentoring. University of Life is a chance to show these young ladies firsthand that they can have a successful career in technology, and provide them with skills they’ll carry through high school, college and their future careers.”

The Michigan Women Foundation’s University of Life is a week-long overnight camp at Grand Valley State University that prepares middle school girls (grades 6-8) for success in high school, college, careers and their communities. The program aims to help young women understand how their talents relate to future careers and provides a mentoring experience immersed in entrepreneurship, STEM careers and leadership. The camp also focuses on promoting positive self-esteem, body image, financial literacy and social responsibility.

Sanchez, Strand, Grant, Gordon and Zerbel will provide mentoring during University of Life. They will work one-on-one with students to provide them with career advice and support as they explore different career paths.

“I absolutely love working in technology and I’m excited to share my passion and experience with these bright, young women,” Zerbel said. “Thanks to University of Life, we have the opportunity to empower and inspire the next generation of women tech leaders and hopefully encourage more middle school girls to pursue a technology degree in college.”

University of Life will take place at Grand Valley State University July 31 – Aug. 4.
